Best ANR headset for 737-800

I think it has been answered elsewhere, but why is it many UA flights sound like you're talking with the side window open? (no "Richard" intentions here, just sounds odd at times)
PS, I have no idea what we sound like.

Great, somebody said it. I've had similar thoughts about UA radio transmissions for many years. While it's been discussed within the confines of my cockpit, I never wanted to be a "Tool of the Day" candidate by brining it up on the forum. But since the door has been opened ... my theory is that many United pilots take out the O2 mask and hold it a few inches in front of them to use it's microphone for transmissions, which produces a sound similar to the Spaghetti Os cans with a thigh tension string in between, or something like radio transmissions in classic war movies or cop shows when being "radio dispatched" was a big deal. I can't come up with a serious explanation, but it seems like United has its own sound. Am I wrong? It's irrespective of aircraft type or operational arena, but I can often discern United by the audio quality prior to call sign utilization more often than not. One crusty old ex-Bonanza/Hughes captain I flew with called it "Marvin Mainliner Signature Audio," and that It had been that way forever. He figured United had found a way to can and preserve the DC-3 radio sound. No disrespect United folks, but I really think it's "a thing." The distinctive transmission signature is out there. Anybody else?

At AA there was talk that they were going to give us a David Clark Pro X, so I never wanted to spend the cash on one just in case this came through. That was 3 fleet captains ago though, so I should probably just pony up.
