Try flying into Ireland, Scotland, and England. London control is very bad. I think they are still using the same radio equipment they used in the 1940's, plus they speak a funny English over there.

Default Controllers

At CVG, a Delta hub, I have heard ground controllers call taxiway D TAXIWAY DIXIE. This is smart.

Of course this is smart and I am sure it has prevented a lot of confusion. Just another example of being wise enough to get your head out of the rule books.

There are a lot of people on the radio now and even more to come when 5000 VLJ's hit the skies. Sometimes using "old school rules" phraseology just does not work anymore. You need to get on say what you need to say and get off so the controller can respond and move on. It may work great when you are going around the patch in a C172 at a small airport, but in busy terminal or positive control airspace flying, there is not time for it. "Out of 1.5 for 3 or 3 thousand" is quick a still fits the requirements. I don't think it compromises safety or communications in anyway. There is nothing wrong with teaching people the correct way when they are training, but sometimes you need to adapt as you progress. Then that person who is trained properly will still carry some of that forward with them.

Yeah, because only pilots who turn kerosene into noise are "real" pilots. The rest of the people are flying around with fake pilot certificates.
(Not that I think you'll care, but private pilots in this country greatly outnumber ATPs.)

While I agree about the 50 hour wonder, don't forget about the pilots who fly freight in Barons, 310s, Navajos and 402s. As well as the pilots up in Alaska who land on riverbeds in a 185 carrying the mail. They are professionals who should be respected, regardless of the contents of their fuel tank.

If you absolutely must have a "for hire" only point of view, www.*************.com provides that outlet (Sorry for the advertisment HSLD).

This site serves a good replacement for FI.com where everybody is invited. PPW serves as a good place where 100LL has much less of an influence (Since all members must be either Comm or ATP rated). The $10/year fee is well worth it IMHO.

Well, you know the old saying: "If it were easy, everyone would be doing it..."

Wasting your breath on a lot of this kids...I know, I was the same way 'til I flew into EWR for the first time! Let them sort it out during IOE.

By the way I requested 27 the other day for the south side, and i think I had the same controller. I told her we were running "obscenely late!" and she just cracked up and said it was my lucky day...mind you it was around 5:30 in the afternoon.

Oh how unsafe we airline pilots can be!
