Hope we get a picture of the DC9, MD88, MD90, MD95 all on the ramp.

Not even close actually. The Saudi MD-90EFD's have Honeywell Pegasus FMS and the autopilot functions similar to the MD-80. The MD-95 ( ehh, Boeing 717 ) has an FMS and autopilot much closer to the MD-11.

The condition of the Saudi MD-90s is not really good. They had trouble from the start with the VSCF only lasting about 400 flight hours. The extreme heat and sand of that area of operation wore out many parts quickly. They cannibalized quite a few airframes to keep the rest running. You can see them sitting off the side of the runway in Riyadh and Jeddah these days.

That said, it was a great airplane to fly. It's like a bridge between the old and the new with the good aspects of both. You could fly it in LNAV/VNAV just as well as a B777; you could fly it exactly like an MD-80; or you could click everything off and fly it like a DC-9.

It was the first year of my life in the desert. If we ever meet in person I'll tell you the stories.

If you guys do get them the CAE sim is still down in Florida I think. Embry Riddle had it for the CAPT program. Saudia eventually bought one or two Thales sims that are still in Jeddah.

I've got all the books for the EFD, including the line maintenance handbook which was very handy for fixing things out in the middle of the desert

I always thought it was about surfing. When the life guards put up red flags as a warning. Which I guess you could say is a battle signal for "fight to the death" with 'the world'.

To which we should always remember:

In the battle between you and the world, bet on the world.

Boomer ... your post is worth a bump to the next page.

George just got on my case about the CASM numbers. He's right. I should have posted the Comair numbers. The reason why I did not is because shrinkage runs cost numbers through the roof. If we get more 905's they will be operated by one of the growing, street Captain, outfits. ... until Delta decides to destroy their seniority and award "low cost" flying to the next flavor of the day.

As a union, that should be a "red flag" but as far as I know, GoJets can ride our jumpseats.

P.S. You are not the only airline shrinking. We're right there with you and for the same reasons. It is just most around here don't see the correlation.

As to the part about AT pilots and furloughs. If this resulted in furloughs, oh man, that would be the biggest mess the pilot industry has probably ever seen and that's saying something.

I'd think that IF all of this is true then I bet we did get those 20-25 717s in the desert that disappeared the week of our 739 announcement. And if so, those could come in first while SWA phases out the 717 over time. It doesn't have to be an immediate transfer and could, hopefully, be done with a 1:1 replacement with a new 737.

Wikipedia says SWA has 190 737-700s, 72 737-800s and 150 737-Max's on firm order. That far exceeds the 86ish 717s.

that's a hunch.
What's ironic is that when Delta merged with NWA they already owned 47% of the airline that operated 25 B-717's , Midwest Airlines. ( I presume those 25 717's in the desert are the 25 that MEA operated).
NWA was the minority stakeholder in the TPG buyout of Midwest. We later found out that the minority interest was a whopping 47%! Unfortunately for all who worked for Midwest, Delta had no interest in Midwest and quickly divested themselves of their stake. One more bitter twist to the saga if these aircraft end up on Delta property afterall.
And so it goes.

Shoot higher than the SWA contract. I have heard RA would love to give us the SWA contract.

I want our C2k contract plus inflation. Think about it; All these darn theaters we fly to? Our flying is a lot more complicated and burdensome than SWAs.

TEN

PS. Screw the 717s if it means loosening us SCOPE!
