Of course, you can join OBAP and Women in Aviation, International.
You don't have to be black or a woman to join, by joining your just saying "I support blacks, minorities and women in the pursuit of aviation". Ain't nothing wrong with it. And these organizations realize people join for networking reasons, and then dump it once they get a job.
I volunteer with OBAP, I like to go to schools and talk about aviation to the kids. Mentoring and encouragement is the best thing about volunteering. Honestly, I don't use OBAP to network, I don't tell anyone I'm trying to get an airline gig, WAI is different. Great bunch of people, and I'll network like crazy, especially at the WAI Conference.
I'm bummed I'm going to miss the OBAP Spring Career Fair, my wife is pushing me to go, but it's pretty expensive to just fly out to Vegas on a whim.
Good luck to those guys who are going to attend! Put your best foot forward and make a great impression!

Thanks for the tip on the LOR attachments and I am definitely going to OBAP to see US Airways. Only OBAP though; I can't stomach the idea of waiting in line for hours at a FAPA event. Nice folks, but they just get way too crowded, especially when there is only one main attraction and not several equally attractive employers wanting to talk with the hundreds of us.

I understand you on the standing in line. I stood in line for nearly 6 hours to talk to the Spirit folks. Not their fault, just shows the immense interest there was in them.
At the FAPA job fair, there will also be Atlas and Virgin America, so it would be worth it to go both days, I think. I needn't talk to Virgin, but maybe I'd have better luck with the Atlas recruiter in Vegas than I did at WAI.
Good luck!

Well I guess this thread can be put to sleep for the weekend and we will continue where we left off next week as we return to the regularly scheduled US Airways Calls discussion, speculation, anticipation and frustration during regularly scheduled US Airways Pilot Recruitment hours.
