They have to type you initially now - effective August first all of the airlines do.

I believe you will receive an SIC type rating.

I think after July 31st all newhires are typed. The wording in the new regs looks like any 121 airline has to type new-hires. Please correct if Im wrong guys.

Well, they have until what, 2016 to get everyone typed who has an SIC, right? I'm not sure if they can keep issuing SICs after August though.

My understanding is that all new hires after August 2016 have to get a PIC type. All those on property prior to that have until 2016b to get the PIC type.

There's a paragraph that states something about new-hires needing a pic type if hired at a 121 after July 31, 2013. It is a little ambiguous but another guy on here posted it and that's where i first saw it. I am by no means arguing with anyone over wording in an FAA document. lol.

http://www.alpa.org/portals/alpa/1500Rule/

The short version
"Beginning Aug. 1, 2013, to be a copilot for a U.S. FAR Part 121 airline, you’ll have to hold an ATP or a “restricted” ATP certificate. All airline pilots may have to hold a first class airman medical certificate (but ALPA has filed a Petition for Exemption with the FAA to allow first officers to continue to fly on a second class airman medical certificate).

First officers also will be type-rated in the aircraft they intend to fly in FAR Part 121 service. "

http://www.alpa.org/portals/alpa/1500Rule/FinalRule.pdf

(Airlines have until 2016 to type existing employees)
