In the Alaska pool.

Been applying for ten years, job fairs for 7.
Service academy graduate, military non-flying.
Multiple volunteer positions in my company and community.
Been at a regional for 12 years, 8400 TT, 3600 121 PIC.

Frustrated that it took so long - but very grateful, excited and happy to be selected. Can't wait to start!

Nothing special? Don't sell yourself short. You've been volunteering since high school and got a 3.9 GPA in college. You've accumulated over 9K hours with heavy INTL PIC. Sounds pretty special to me.

It sounds to me like you've been working your whole life with a single goal in mind and never gave up. It sounds to me like you earned that interview and earned the job at UAL with every effort you put in since high school. Don't let the internet harshness make you apologize for your comment about being on the younger side...you're proud of yourself and you should be. You worked your a$$ off and got hired early in your life in an industry where age+seniority are king. You're going to have an incredible career and you've earned it.

Many congrats! Well done.

Default Delta internal recommendations

I was wondering if someone could clarify something about Delta internal recommendations for me? I was wondering if the timing of getting the letters matters? I have my app in, but I am not even at their published hiring minimums yet. Would it be better to wait until I have a more competitive application before getting recommendations on airlineapps or does it matter if I just start getting them now so that when I get more time the letters are already there? I know they have a way of emailing the hiring board to get your app scored, but is that different than just getting the recommendation letter on airlineapps?

Thanks all!

Start getting the recs now.

Yes. Get your recs in line now. They can be from Delta employees and co-workers. The day you meet the mins, publish the application and have a Delta employee submit an internal rec. 1 rec every 12 months.

Hope this helps.

Default 4 CJOs and now a purple interview opportunity

I've gained a lot of insight from watching this and similar threads over the last couple decades. It's my turn to contribute. More important than the stats below is the networking aspect. Delta, American, United, and UPS CJOs all happened in a 3 month window, and now have a purple interview opportunity.

Retiring military in 2017, F/A-18 and T-45 instructor
Stats at publishing:
2600+ Total, 2300+ PIC, 1500+ Instructor, 250+ last 12 months
Others: 10+ traffic tickets, 3 training flight failures.
Aviation highlights: Director of Safety, Aviation Safety Officer, CRM I, NATOPS Instrument Evaluator
Community: 20+ years of service in multiple capacities.
LoR: 4 internal UAL, 4 internal DAL, 0 at AAL (1 internal at interview), 3 UPS (all internal of course), no PE for FDX.
Exceptional help from OBAP mentors I volunteer with for UAL, DAL, UPS, and FDX.

Had been preparing for all aspects of interviews at over ten companies for several years. Researched all the options out there for app review and interview prep and chose two great companies. Also networked at the OBAP Job Fair in August 2016 at 7 months ahead of availability date which light speeded the interviews, all well ahead (3-6 months) of my availability date.

One of the best resources along the way has been this website with the valuable insight gained by reading posts from several dozen folks over the years as I pondered multiple career decision points along the way including my most recent decision a few weeks ago for where to go out of these 4 CJOs and now pondering whether to interview at purple. Thank you to the multiple folks that keep this site running and most importantly thank you to the selfless mentors on this site that respond to folks they've never met with incredibly informative posts.
