- RIF, non-voluntary sep, waive commitments and pay you less than if you vol'd. Occurs after first two programs run their course

About two weeks ago, AF approved a bunch of early retirements. Still no answers on the second.

Bottom line, at this point, there are now a few more people entering the job market (maybe 100s, not even close to thousands). If they approve VSP, that'd be more. How many? No idea.
Yep. Basically the whole process has been a mess from its inception for those on the inside trying to get out. For those on the outside looking in the original matrix was targeting about 400-500 pilots spread across various commission year groups and aircraft (mostly mobility, tanker, recon/surv/EW and bomber) that they considered overages. This is the first round. Programs are expected to continue over the next few years, but no telling what end state number they are targeting for pilots.

Interesting strategy. You must believe that your seniority at Airways would be better than what you would get at AAL... or am I missing something?

He was hired post merger which should be DOH regardless.

Matchpoint and Saabs are both correct. It will be DOH. He did the right thing by staying at US

Will be? Nothing is set in stone. No matter what past precedent you look at, you cannot guarantee anything at this point. This merger will be interesting when you have three (arguably four) separate pilot groups to merge. Although it sounds like newhires since merger date have gone DOH in the past, one could also argue that AA hired much less and then get slotted in with US guys hired since merger date.

Bottom line is no one knows yet, so it's not accurate to make a definitive statement like it "will be" DOH.

fair enough. but knowing what we know, given the currentinformation at hand, it wouldn't make any sense to leave an earlier hire date at US for a later class date at AA. Many people who played this game in the 90s got burned. badly.

Agreed. Bird in hand vs two in a bush.
