It sounds like its cautious thinking based on AA's past history of swallowing small carriers and either stapling them or near-stapling them to the bottom. I believe that the AA/US merger is a completely different scenario, especially since AA being in bankruptcy merging with a major airline that had already restructured doesn't have the same power to dominate the SLI. For this reason, I think new hires are just gonna get integrated by DOH. The rest will be a horrible mess, and I do feel for those pilots because at best, half the pilots will be ok with it, and at worst 75 percent or more will be upset.

Yes. But in anycase, it would be presumptuous to assume that an airline that is half the size of a huge legacy would get equal treatment.

The difference is on paper it's two airlines but in reality you are trying to merge three - arguably four - different pilot groups. It is what it is. The TWA guys got screwed as did AWA. And then you have AA and legacy US Airways guys to merge.

You're not seeing the entire picture. I have a class date with Airways that's right around when I'd be able to interview with AA. If you were in my shoes what would you do? I’d have to turn down a bird in hand for the one in the bush or start ground at Airways then leave for AA....... and that’s just ridiculous? It’s the same airline. It’s not like being hired at US and having an interview lined up with DL. As you know, Airways and AA are currently two different roads that lead to the same job. Taking this into account I’ll take the first class I can get into which means by going to Airways I’m in class a month earlier than if I waited for AA. Also, commuting out of where I live is much easier on Airways than AA since BNA used to be an AA domicile and there are lots of AA pilots who still live here.
When talking about the SLI, there’s a long precedence for everyone who’s been hired after the snap shot being placed on the bottom based on DOH.

Yep, and regardless of how that all goes I'm on bottom looking up. I'm certain it will be DOH for all those hired after the snap shot but who really knows....... If it's not then I lose what? A couple dozen slots? That's nothing compared to what most will lose. I'm happy I have a class date and I will focus on that for now. Worrying about seniority when I'm not even on property is a waste of my time.

I'd definitely keep the Airways slot vice trying to go to AA a month later or more later. Name a major merger in the last few years that hasn't gone DOH for new hires announced the snapshot date. I think the chances of it going any other way are slim and none.

MatchPoint you're absolutely correct. They only argument I could possibly think of for taking AA is if you wanted to protect yourself if bases were going to be fenced for new hires, which they probably won't due to vacancies everywhere coming up. For example, if I had AA and US at the same time, I'd take US, because I live 20 min from PHL, and the thought of flying 3 days a month a320 reserve is absolutely amazing. If I lived in Miami, I might choose AA instead. It's all hypothetical, but logic suggests you're making the right choice. If it turns out it was the wrong choice, nobody would Monday-morning quarterback it.

I agree that current post merger new hires will see DOH regardless. I actually wonder how someone currently employed at one would be recieved at an interview with the other. Pre merger I'd at least go to the interview, but once hired at one, post merger, I'd stay with the original class date.
