I wonder what I have to do? Maybe I am too old? 48....
You are not too old, Delta has hired as old as 63. But over-qualified perhaps?

I'm guessing the concern of the HR Dept. is; how are you going to like sitting in the right seat of a 717 and pulling gear for some 5,000 hr. 35yr. old, Capt?

That is a silly question and assumes a great deal of immaturity on my part.

I have been an airline pilot for over 20 years and it has happened more that once. Never had a problem with it, never will have a problem with it, now my question is how will a 35 year old feel sitting next to a 48 year old f/o with 3 times his experience?

We have a 52-year old in our class, and 2 or 3 that are 48. I'm 40, and out of the 28 in my class, I'm right in the middle age-wise. I can't tell you why they aren't calling you, but maybe check into some of the interview consultants, they might be able to give you some third-party critiques of your resume, etc and provide you with other avenues to getting noticed.

Maybe you're exaggerating for effect. But the most junior Delta B717 Capt I see was hired in 1997 and is 49 years old.

That was then, this is now. After 5 years of stagnation caused by the age 65 debacle, the flood gates are about to open, and there will once again be 35yr. old captains in the not too distant future. You don't think the guys in HR know what they are doing, and who they want to talk to, and what 'problems' might arise?

My point was, you don't show up to interview (for a right seat 717 job) bragging about 15,000 hours and all the 747 time you have.

Now you know why Delta uses a shrink; to weed out the ego maniacs.

Get a clue.

Was completely shocked to even get the interview. Very fortunate to get the job offer.

12 LORs at UAL from CAL, UAL, checkairman, instructors, UAL legacy but was told I didn't have enough hours.
Tip of the hat Sir

The 747 curse?.. Those of us that fly the whale know how hard it is to find a job... It's a dinosaur. The 400 type < an a320 type. Airbus time is gold right now.
