Oh they can and will. But it doesn't make their talking points true.

Chicago style politics sure don't seem to be having a very good run these days...

Buzz Hazard? Does he have anything in common with the line pilot? I bet he hasn't flown in a year.

Let's say we actually focus on what seems to be happening, and not the proxy arguments that people want to add-on.

Using the two letters as evidence... the problem is really quite simple, and so is the solution.

This reactionary exercise is exactly what happens when you don't have a retirement age: the captain never quite thinks it's OK to relinquish the controls. He'll keep making a case that his experience his needed, and miss the moment when he became irrelevant and useless.

If anything, this adventure is evidence we need term limits for ALPA work. I think at most 2 terms as rep, or 6 years in administration positions, should be followed by at least 3 years without an ALPA function at the MEC or National level.

The organization needs to value new perspectives, and new people.

Totally agree.

This is as close to the ideal situation for me and my one vote. I also like FTB's idea of direct election of the MEC Chairman. Term limits and direct election are two things that can transform us from the Politburo system we have now.The gang of three that was fired by Kingsley should never have been reinstated. Who was it who posted that the cemetary is full of indispensable men?

We need a Chairman who is not a member of either group.

Somebody who has been around here long enough to understand the issues facing the pilot group but who doesn't have any ties to the existing factions in DALPA.
There are clearly some ALPA careerists who need to be sent back to the line for awhile and there are clearly some insurgents who need to get with the program and start rowing in the same direction as everyone else after a decision has been made.
The barnacle encrusted old guard needs to be stripped off the hull. At the same time, the perennial "opposition" bomb throwers who obstruct progress for no good reason other than spite need to be called out.

Somebody needs to bang some heads together and put an end to this nonsense.

Plus 1. And the insurgents are on both sides, that is why there is such a play being made for the pilots who are somewhat in the middle.

"We need a Chairman who is not a member of either group."

Two questions:

1. Are you going to take a shot, having written all those perfect sentiments? No sarcasm here, I agree with you; the perfect chairman would be a pilot who caused the factions to get into a contest over who was the most serious about C2015.

-and-

2. How long do I have to be doing ALPA work before I am considered a barnacle worthy of getting scraped off?

Quitting is hard - a few days of this stuff and you get an idea of how rotten this job would be if nobody stepped up for union work.

Good luck with your campaign!
