Everyone keeps mentioning how it's best to get on early in a hiring wave. I know this is hard to predict, but how long will the early wave be? For instance, if you are at a regional right now and get on with a major in the next 3 years, is that still in the beginning or am I going be in the back of the wave and looking at a tough start?

Yesterday's 2yr upgrade is tomorrow's furlough fodder... Gather the best info you can make an educated guess and take a WAG at it. You'll know how you did when you punch out at retirement.

Looking at retirement data, smart money would say that you would still be on the front of the wave. I got hired at Delta in 2008, and while we haven't hired much since then, big picture, I feel like I was in the very front of a large hiring wave to come. It helps to be young vs. middle age having that prospective though, since the career is longer.
Who knows though. Lots of things can happen, but things "appear" pretty good for anyone hired in the next few years.
