There's no free anything anymore. Get ready for the FAA to take over everything once electronic medical records become the norm. There will only be one AME that sets the standards and a computer that reviews our history. 1984 was dated a few decades early but the end result will be the same unless we do something about it.

I agree the price of First Class Medical has out paced inflation.
More importantly, we need to be alarmed that the FAA in now wanting to screen for Sleep Apnea and has admitted that they will ratchet down the BMI index . Although they have shelved the idea it will reappear soon, beware.
Quoted Directly from Fred Tilton M.D. article in the The Federal Air Surgeon's Medical Bulletin • Vol. 51, No. 4
"OSA is almost universal in obese individuals who have a Body Mass
Index (BMI) over 40 and a neck circumference of 17 inches
or more, but up to 30% of individuals with a BMI less than
30 have OSA.
"Once we have appropriately dealt with every airman examinee
who has a BMI of 40 or greater, we will gradually expand the
testing pool by going to lower BMI measurements until we
have identified and assured treatment for every airman with
OSA.
"Note: We plan to implement the same assessment and
treatment protocol for ATCSs, but we have to finalize some
logistical details before we can proceed"
I love the wording in the Note: directly quoted above.
"The FAA solving problems since 1958" that don't exist! "Mahem"

The government will keep telling you how great the economy is doing everyday, but the true measure of it is the pricing index increase overtime.
We are sliding downhill fast.

"Few" means a small percentage of doctors are AMEs. I don't get your point or why your bothered to reply. MY point is that there isn't all that much competition for AMEs. My guess is that the guy charging $200 is not all that interested in doing them.
