In 1964 they paid zip, nada, bupkis, during during orientation. Not on the payroll. Nyrop was the MAN! During the attempted NW-NE merger, three NE guys showed up in Min. for negotiations. Nyrop said the reason they didn't make money was," two too many negotiators". Cookies- for children when they ask, right on the box on the 7C. Tied down tight it was.....

Not to sound on NWA too much, but DAL didn't pay rent. However you were directed to several apt. complexes owned by DAL pilots in College Park. No shortage of F/A's there.

Any insight on nice, safe, no-car-needed crashpads for those of us starting reserve soon?

Look on Craigslist and AirBNB for more options. With 50 a month through the summer the crash pad pool has shrunk considerably.

I ended up buying a cheap car and found a place about 4 miles from the airport. I had no luck within walking distance (at least for a private room which I wanted for training). Everybody was full and had a waiting list.

Hotel prices seems to be going up as well. Supply and demand I guess.

Good luck.

Delta [or even FedEx for conversation sake] does NOT need to pay for your hotel. There are 11,000 applications on file. If you do not want to pay for a hotel, another 10,999 will, including me. Delta is a premier airline and knows it. We need them more than they need most of us.

...and that's what's wrong with the airlines. people like you would take the job for pennies on the dollar just to fly those big jets. you're why its so hard to get pay rates to where they should be.

I actually would recommend getting a crashpad over a hotel. Find a nice one for $300-$400 with your own room, nice living room to relax in, nice kitchen, and bring your car down. WAY better than being cooped up in a small hotel room and having to take the shuttle.

There are tons of them available if you have a car. If you don't want to bring a car you might find a place within a few blocks of VA. You can walk to the Holiday Inn and take their shuttle to the training center if you do that.

If you have the $$$ the Residence is probably the best bet, but it will cost ya.

I got ATL88 in training so I found me a nice crashpad for training and kept it until I bid out of ATL. $250 a month and had my own room. Walked over to the old Comfort Inn for a ride to the training center or airport. Just takes a lot of stress out of your life when you are new.

I'd much rather pay for a place to stay during sim training than have to cough up a 737 type, have no benefits for 6 months, or get paid what JetBlue pays during training.

I'm not sure that was 100% fair. All the poster said was that they were willing to pay for a hotel or equivalent. Guess what though, 100% of everyone hired at DL in a very long time have also been willing to do so. But so what. DL pilots have negotiated some of the best new hire pay around, a reduced probation system after OE and the end of probation after 400 hours if that happens prior to a year, which it quite often does and the company pays the first 2 weeks as a courtesy as well. Positive space home on 2+ day breaks is an incredibly nice perk too.

We have more work to do WRT the profession in general and our particular pay/contract as well. But its completely irrelevant to think DL shouldn't be able to fill classes because new hires refuse the job because of the hotel issue. And it certainly doesn't make anyone a patsy for taking the job. Yeah, no thanks on the offer, I'm holding out for a few hundred extra in front end benefits and until I get it I'm passing on the 4-5M dollar career. Yeah right.

FWIW I'd like to see the company voluntarily pay for full footprint hotels, and if not then I'd like to see it in the next contract.

Realize this thread hasn't been active in a little while, but thought I'd let anyone who's interested know that I have a room available in East Atlanta to rent while in sim training. I'm a fellow DAL employee (I work in the G.O.) and happy to have pilots-in-training stay at my house. I travel both for work and pleasure so you'll have a quiet, study-friendly environment. East Atlanta is about a 20 minute drive to the airport so you'll have to have your own transportation. Send me a PM if you're interested.

There's a large kitchen, large yard/deck, air conditioning, washer/dryer and wi-fi available. Asking $650/month with everything included.
