I have actually had passengers ask me if my F/O was old enought to drive? I have never had a passenger ask me if I was. So all the old guy/gummer haters, have another reason to hate us, our bichen cars, multiple houses, hot girlfriends, and now our track records. Toss in our astounding inability to care about spelling and/or grammar, should push many over, the already close edge.
The pilots of EgyptAir, Silk Air, and Mozambique all had longevity when they crashed the airplane. 2 of those 3 were CAs. The Egypt Air FO was ~59 yrs old just months from retirement.

NASA Advances Single-Pilot Operations Concepts | Technology content from Aviation Week

It's one way of addressing potential pilot shortage...
I guess since Obama put NASA out of business and forced our astronauts to hitch-hike on our global ambassador of Communism and conquest; mother Russia NASA has nothing else better to do than to study single pilot operations with a baby sitter on the ground.

How's that baby sitter going to read 11 different checklists all at the same time? Who's gonna watch the plane when our single pilot Captain needs a nap?

NOPE, not gonna happen. I won't put my family back there.

Lastly, I realy hope this doesn't happen but technology is moving at a rapid clip and our jobs could be targeted.
Not going to be able to fly as drones.

No way for the computer be able to handle 45 knot cross winds. We have to over-ride the automation way too often for it to ever work. The dynamics of weather both at the airport and enroute are way too challenging for drones to handle.

No way for SWA to do 20 minute turns either.

First, there's no pilot shortage. Just a shortage of people who want to work like slave for not enough pay, and for sure a shortage of folks who feel inspired to pay their dues for embarrassingly small compensation considering the responsibility one has to manage.

Second, if all the pilots in the business all grew long beards and carried about Korans and prayed to the east five times a day this idea would be shtt canned. If the whole world thought we were all a bunch of 8 balls walking around with carpet squares they wouldn't trust us to be alone in the cockpit of a jet, much less alone with their pet sheep.

Baa haa, 10 years my ass. In 10 years we've only added iPads to the mix. What happens when I go to the back to hit the head? The FA comes up?! No problems there, their cost of entry is 6 weeks, imagine vetting their emotional baggage and suicidal tendencies! Cat lovers unite!

Who needs to worry about meteors, nuclear war or global warming, we're getting rid of the need for real, living, breathing humans every day.
There will always be a need for professional voters.
