Out of the blue but, how does long haul 3 pilot rotations work? Just curious. Like who flies? Who lands? Who sleeps? 2 captains and one FO?

I'm a night owl myself and I'm just the same way -- in fact I went to bed today just before 4AM on my day off.

But if you are flying a redeye that arrives at 07:00 and you don't get home until 08:00 (and that's if you live in base) then that's far beyond just "staying up late."

That's more of what I was referring to -- missing the entire night's sleep and then trying to nap at 10:00 as if it's the same as the deep sleep your body would have gotten (we know it's not).

I can stay up easier than I can get up.

Most companies run that as 2 F/O's, one Capt. Some allow both F/O's to get a take off and a landing, some don't. Some Captains take all the good stuff, some share, be it meals, landings, or flight attendants!

I sleep until I'm hungry, I eat until I'm tired.

I wait 15 hours, put the gear down and land.
