Reading that thread is an exact transcript of what you hear in the eastern US. Yikes..

It's not their fault. Most of them have not seen or smelled a floater who's vessel went down when their calls for help weren't heard.

But's it's also why there's no straight flow at Delta.

I go back to my first post. Personally I appreciate it when somebody says "guard" when I call left base on 121.5. It keeps me from continually talking on the frequency in error tying it up and it gets me on the correct frequency so those that need the position report can hear them.

Nothing wrong in correcting somebody who is in error in my book. The lectures or saying "guard" to somebody who clearly knows they are on guard are unhelpful. In the case of the people making fart noises they do it for one reason only, to hear the magic words "guard" so don't give into their desires. So maybe if we all just did as GuppyPuppy says the right thing we make the world better.

Enough sanctimonious crud from you former SAR Coast Guard types. I seriously doubt anyone has ever interfered with a genuine rescue mission with farts or other shenanigans on 121.5. I'm absolutely positive that if a real emergency was ever in progress, everyone would monitor guard and listen in for any way to help. That's the way I've experienced it crossing the ocean anyway.

My big rescue was when we filled in for a broken CG helicopter. And that was conducted on 243.0 anyway.

Are you saying that some regional pilots are too immature to work for Delta or any other major? Would you be opposed to a flow with strict screening requirements to weed out the immature and unprofessional regional types?

Funny, coming from a big-time AS pilot who likes to lecture about how much experience he has flying around Alaska. I thought you'd be the first to defend "silence on guard", just in case a crabber out of Dutch goes down in the Bering Sea or a Beaver full of hunters crashes in Kodiak. But I forgot, you'd rather monitor CTAF at JNU and report on APC when Delta has to divert...talk about sanctimonious.

My post was to illustrate how playing" Topgun" on guard could interfere with legitimate SAR cases. I have no doubt that if you overheard a distress call on your way to OGG you would help in any way you could. But if you don't think it affects DF searches on 121.5, you're wrong.

If a real emergency were ever in progress, most of the aircraft in the area won't know because they've lowered their #2 volume so they don't have to listen to all of the ludicrous and unfunny BS on guard while trying to monitor a primary radio.

I really don't understand why people don't get this.

Panties in a bunch much? You post is so wrong on so many levels I don't to have the time to elaborate. From CTAF in PAJN to lectures about flying around Alaska, you couldn't be more wrong in your presumptions. We all appreciate your CG service. Try not to take this forum personally.
