Some truth to that. As a probationary 2nd officer on a DC-6, a co-worker was mistaken for a bellman at the Hojo’s near JFK one morning, by an elderly woman who asked for help getting luggage to her room. Having a sense of humor, said “why not”. It earned him a 2 dollar tip. Realizing the new found wealth potential, and being on probation pay of $600/mo, he hung around and picked up a few more jobs. That ended when the real bell hop caught him and threatened to have him banned from the hotel.
I think he retired from United last year.
Obviously we weren’t with United then, but a small freight operator...1979.

You guys are killing me. I'm trying to make you laugh, and you're making me chuckle. I'm just pointing out that business attire has continually evolved and I think we're at the point where the hat is starting to take on the shade of the powdered wig of an English barrister. My two cents and worth nothing. Hey, if you love your hat, stand tall and proud! Anyway a new week is at hand, and here we go...
