Are you unable to stay completely sober for 3-4 days, or do you just like playing with poop? Wallow in it all you want, my point is that if you want to remove all doubt about an alcohol related offense, don't drink at work, including layovers.

What's worse, a surgeon called in after he had a glass of wine two hours ago or the fact that he's been awake for 19 hours and is about to undertake a 6 hour surgery?

There's a system in place constructed by people much smarter than you and I. I trust the system.

Going "3-4 days without a drink" and staying "sober for 3-4 days" are very different things.

Some of you teetotalers crack me up. One drink is "irresponsible"? Drinking at work means "including layovers"? LOL. Ya'll go ahead and do you. I'll continue to do me....which means I'll be enjoying an ice cold beverage in downtown xxx with my FO on my long layovers. That is all. Cheers.

I'd say the guys did nothing wrong until they post breathalyzers scores that say otherwise.
Hate to say it, but heard from someone I trust that the test results will certainly not help them in any way. Not with the Brits, NOR with the FAA....if you get the meaning.

What I actually said was if you want to remove risk of being accused of an alcohol related crime while working, than don't drink at work. Based on the responses, it seems that more than a few pilots would have trouble completing a trip without going to the bar. How sad is that?

You infer incorrectly. It all goes to the argument of those who know better and will decide for you vs the right of one to make their own decision.

Not condoning what happened, even though we don't know the full story at this point, but I am still shocked that one of them is CL. He's one of the last pilots I would have guessed to be caught up in something like this.

Not sure if any of you know him, but he was always a professional, stand-up guy that frankly others could have emulated. Layovers were NEVER an issue with regards to drinking and I really enjoyed flying with him.

What a shame.....

I could give a flip what it is that you do when you put your big boy pantsuit on.

I don't miss hearing all the super interesting "there I was" style sky king stories during self medication hour. But, that's my choice and the price I'll pay for choosing to stay outta bars on layovers.
