If you can't tell if the runway is too short for T.O. You be in the wrong biz.

Old joke from the schoolhouse....
Q: What should you do if the ODM says you are too heavy?
A: Throw the ODM out of the window to reduce weight.

I learned to use a slide rule in high school before electronic calculators were common and have used an E6B. However, today's system of delivering the numbers to flights is much more accurate than chart chasing of days past.

A two hour delay is the tradeoff for accurate numbers fleetwide. IMO, worth it.

No kidding. I just love flying with the guys who insist on changing the numbers via a lengthy request from ACARS as we approach the hold short line because the temperature changed one degree celsius. Thank God we bumped that rotate speed up a knot. Close call.

It is more accurate because they built large margins into those numbers. Now days they are shrinking the margins via automation. Margins however can be a good thing in aviation.
