Being on Resv. at Delta is better anyday than a senior CA at XJT. 12 hr call is normal call time, they can only give you 8 2hr call times a month. You will understand when you make the jump.

I think that's the key word in your statement.

Not true by a long-shot. Lorenzo gutted and bled Eastern to feed Continental. I don't recall any growth @ EAL during Lorenzo's era.

Wonder how this would affect the retirement plans for pilots? NWA[defined benefit?] still has theirs and DAL[PBGC] doesn't. HMMMM !

By the way I agree with freezing...I wouldn't want to be on the bottom of the list.
Rosie,

Excellent point. My first thought was that capacity would be reduced in markets like MSP-ATL, DTW-ATL, SLC-DTW, etc.

Give me your opinion (or anyone can jump in), do you think the LCCs will try to add capacity between the former carriers hubs i.e. DTW-ATL. or MEM-CVG, etc.

-or-

Do you think capacity will be reduced elsewhere.

Thanks in advance,

Flifast

The current CEO at AirTran has gone on record supporting a DL/NW merger.

He says it would free up gate space in ATL they have been trying to get for years.

If I recall the quote correctly, he said a merger involving DL would allow AirTran to double their size out of ATL.

Uh, no. Delta will not be losing gates in ATL. Maybe, the two NW gates on D, but those will most likely stay as well. What record did he go on?

In the earnings call last week, Bob F. went on to say that a merger would help AirTran with Atlanta growth/gates but I do think that, yes, he was referring to those 4 D gates.....they would definitely help since we've got the South end of D con now...

But who is to say those gates wouldn't be kept by a DL/NW merger?!? Just like everything else at this point...pure speculation

I think Freezing's point was that it's better to be a senior captain at ABC regional than a furloughed legacy FO at Delta or NWA. I certainly hope that nobody gets the big F word, but in these times of merger/consolidation uncertainty, being at the bottom of the totem pole at a major might just be your ticket to some very unwanted "time off" after a merger.
