NWA Merger committee

NWA Merger committee
I don't usually post but I heard some info around the school house. I heard that the NWA merger committe does not report to the NWA MEC. Is this correct? How could the pilots allow this? Has the option of relative senority come up? Since it is a straight merge, relative senority is the only answer. We need to get something going. UA and Continental are talking. Oil is way up. I don't think any of us know the real numbers. Hell, maybe the stand alone plan is good enough to just forget NWA.

Oh, and why isn't DOH with fences a possible answer?

You agreed to WHAT??!!
What you heard may refer to a situation that has not happened (yet) -- that is, if a merger is announced and then seniority negotiations take place. In that case, it's my understanding that if the negotiators agree on a list it becomes binding and neither the MECs nor the membership can change it. If they don't agree on a list, it goes to arbitration. I also understand that this is what usually does happen in a merger.

What school house are you talking about? I've heard the same thing about the NW merger committee-- except the complete opposite. The NW administration does not pick there own (subject to MEC approval) committees.

It appears from all accounts that the NWA MEC is somewhat disfunctional. The individual LEC all hate each other and there is constant infighting. I heard the MEC is not allowing the MEC chairman to work directly with the merger committee. A NWA pilot told me that to call the NWA MEC disfuntional is a gross understatement. Its sad they can't put the redbook/greenbook merger of 20 years ago behind them and get on with the future. Don't look for any merger agreement soon between NWA and DAL since NWA can't agree on anything amongst themselves.

Who do they report to?
I haven't delved into the text of ALPA's loudly-heralded new Merger Seniority Integration Law, but I wondered:
Is it possible that the Merger negotiators report directly to ALPA instead of their respective MECs?
Just a thought.
