World's Biggest Airline - DAL
OK, so are we going to make this thing work, or no.
I, for one, am ready to move ahead, and try to find a way to make this thing work.
I'll lose in DOH, I'll come out ahead in relative percentage. But you know what, I don't really care. I want what makes my airline stronger in the end, and what makes my paycheck bigger.
This is a rambling post, I know, but let's not get bogged down in things that, in the end, don't amount to much.
We'll all be alright.
Let's go Redtails and Redneck Boys!
Oh Yeah, Air France and KLM and (soon to be) Alitallia are no big deal>?/>
Maybe

Good point - look at the weaker airlines these days - either going out of business, bankruptcy or furloughing. I don't want any of those options - a stronger Delta is good for everyone who is employed there.

Wow, Its great to read some positive posts. I am a new hire and it is a very scary time. I hope we can all come together and realize we have the best thing going for us with this merger. Pilots are generally only about self gain. We will all have some sacrafice, but in the end I am confident in this management and their plans. Good luck to all and remember that it could be you in the bottom 950 at UAL!!!!!!

Finally a positive post. I'm sure someone will bust the bubble, but we should all think about a few things. Who knows what will happen tomorrow or next week. It is all about the OIL. I see a lot of posts that slam airline vs. airline (to include the people that work for them). Remember that we all took the job that we have because it was the best offer at the time -- not because it was the team that we have championed since birth. Pilots are a brotherhood that is an elite talent and discipline. If we keep our jobs, be thankful, humble and tasteful, because our BROTHERS may not be so fortunate. Maybe this is too much military camaraderie, but what got us to this point in the first place? Respect for an airline pilot and a tour bus driver should never be in correlation. Money will be paid, and money will always be made on air travel...regardless of the OIL price (it may just be in the form of an executive bonus, but the money is still made). So how do we make it clear to the people--whom will always be paying these fares--that the two individuals in the front of the tube are extraordinary humans that will wisk them from one point on God's green earth to the other in the fastest, safest, and most economical manner possible because they are battle-tested, FAA scrutinized, and self-critical, perfection-driven professionals? We unite, but we do it in a respectful way. Don't crap on you brothers to make the point. I am truly happy to be here.

I guess we will know tonight what the contract holds. My sources say: a no furlough clause, immediate pay parity, and an equity payout. That amounts to a livable first year for me.
I think all sides will be happy. (Of course, I am sure some people will still complain)...

SOFA,
Solid post. Your motivation is contagious. I don't work at either of these airlines, but I have a common service background with you. I knew a Marine pilot would get it during these times. It just takes a few moments of being on the working end of an RPG, an 82 MM mortar system, or any Soviet bloc light calibre weapon and overcoming that foe to know that our industry's challenges are sumountable. There are far worse plights to threaten us in this world. Fly safely. Always Faithful!
