Excellent proposals and constructive ideas from BOTH sides were being shot down because of the effect they might have on one narrow segment of senior pilots from one airline.
There are 12,000 pilots involved here and we shouldn't be held hostage because of an old grudge from the '80s.

I don't know much about Laz...but if his negotiation records are as bad as you guys portray (26 arbitrations and 0 negotiated results), I am glad to see him go as well. We want the best chance for a negotiated SLI. Arbitration is too much of risk for both sides.

I think the negotiating team for each pilot group should be comprised of three pilots:
1. The most junior pilot
2. The most senior pilot
3. The pilot in the middle of the seniority list (50%)
With the middle of the seniority list pilot being the chairman.
I totally agree with the grudge from the 80's thing. I can tell you it goes both ways here and I don't think it was all Laz's fault. The '86 merger Award dropped dead in 2006 and it is still affecting things.
I can tell you that it all starts with each groups attitudes towards the other group at the very beginning of the process. It is essential that each group respect the other group. If not, I feel that negativity will linger until the last pre-merger pilot retires. I hope we at the "New Delta" don't make the same mistakes.

This is incorrect. I know the gentleman personally, and his resignation is truly due to personal reasons which I will not air here. This is NOT one of those firings/left to pursue other interests.

I know Laz as well and he was fired up and ready to go. (Please don't read too much into the "fired up" part) So, do you think they were both forced out to start fresh?

I am speaking of the Delta merger chair. He was NOT forced out. He resigned, for VERY personal reasons. Whether or not the NWA guy was forced, I do not know. When he left, policy called for a whole new merger team.

The red/green stranglehold on NWALPA politics is broken.
At long last, the Blue pilots have quietly risen up and exerted their rightful power.

That '86 award is exactly why we need to keep our seniority list away from the lawyers.
