Do I feel sorry for you guys
So here I am in Dakar lounging on couch doing my Jep revisions for my 4 binders of stuff and I get to thinking about those poor NW bubbas. They will have to convert all their books to the Delta issue. I can only imagine what their international books will look like it. If I have to carry Hawaii and Alaska and all points in between as well as Europe, Central and South America, the Carribean, and Africa/Middle East, just think what those poor whales and 330 guys will have to carry. Welcome to Delta boys, Destroy Every Living Tree Around! Hopefully you guys can bring some more clout for the EFB movement!

I honestly don't see how we're going to fit the required charts and maps in our flight kits. The relief we got on our carry requirements provided little relief.
Once we add the Asian destinations, it seems like we'll need the electronic flight kit. An alternative would be to get a printed chart packet for each trip, but that seems like a messy, wasteful way to do it
I already leave a two inch high stack of enroute charts in my V-file at JFK(Asia/LA/SA). I'm not ready, however, to break up my Jepp binders to allow me to leave some of that behind. (too hard to do revisions correctly once you've moved stuff around).
How do you former NWA guys on the 757 handle the Jepp situation?

EFB, etc
Hi guys,
Several years ago my former employer adopted the LIDO paper charts for all a/c, worldwide. The complete flight kit was maintained on the a/c and updated on the a/c.....no carry for the crews.
This was an interim step prior to EFB implementation. Since LIDO was a bit different than Jepp, the FAA wanted paper available to the crews for a trial period prior to going paperless.
Huge long-term cost saving to the company, and a back saver for the crews......btw, all charts were available in a Flight Information Viewer that was available on the fltops website, so you could review, print as desired.
Leaving Jepp was a bit painful at first, but LIDO offered a superior product for the EFB.....anyone else here have experience with LIDO ?

Because reserves can be sent out to the west coast to cover trips and vice versa.
I think we ought to have ship set jepps. Two or three for each plane would make around 2100 sets vice the over 12000 sets we have now.

Sheeeeet - you didn't do them at cruise? Please tell me that you guys don't consider doing revisions non-essential FD duties and prohibit it.....

NWA 757 doesn't have that many destinations in Europe anymore. They got chased out of or pulled out of BRU, FRA & DUS. Normal and alternates are in our bag, there's a 'brick' shrink wrapped in the cockpit for unusual situations. For Asia flying we leave our jepps at home and take an empty binder. When we get to NRT we pick up the latest Asia jepps; at the end of the trip they go into the trash, we take the empty binder home, pick up our normal jepps. That leaves us extra room in flight bag for 'necessities' for that 13/14 day trip.
I suspect the problem won't get fixed until some fourth-floor type has to actually fly a trip, and sees first hand what the carry requirement is.
