SWA/AirTran SLI Discussion with Drift by LuvJ
Started this at the request of one of my frequent posting buddies. I am expecting great things every fifth post or so.
As far as SWA/AT SLI nobody knows what will happen, they just hope that whatever happens will benefit themselves. I am not posting what I want, I'll just let SWAPA handle the negotiations.

I also won't be posting what I believe to be a fair integration. You will see quite a few guys post their version of fair integrations that would screw whatever group of pilots they hate more.

Pilots from airlines (outside of AirTran and SWA) that may be adversely affected by the merger may elect to throw some flame bait in here and there to poison the water. I would suggest that nobody react to their trolling.

Finally, discussions of previous actual SWA mergers and attempted buyouts are also probably not good topics for discussion because the AirTran/SWA merger is very different in nature. Please don't even respond to trollers that insist that SWAPA will only accept a staple integratoin.
And here it is, FTB - the fifth post. I am hoping for something good. The moderator is already here, dude! Don't leave me hangin'!

It's going to be very interesting how the ratios are weighted in this one.
WN has the upper hand with DOH and a much better benefits... airplanes are all basically the same, so there isnt any sort of fleet weighting.

Agree. A DOH list punishes Tranny types quite a bit.

Truth in advertising: I'm a SWA FO. I stand to lose a heck of a lot if this SLI goes astray.
Someone on another forum suggested merging lists at current levels of pay. Never thought about it but that might be more fair than some of the other ideas I've seen thrown around.
Some issues to think about in an SLI:
a. SWA has a fair number of guys who left Airtran to come to SWA. Any idea how many guys left SWA to go to Airtran? I don't know the answer, but I'm very curious.
b. Airtran pilots are for the most part younger than SWA. They will (on average) get to enjoy/exercise whatever seniority they get for (on average) longer than SWA
c. Everyone at SWA bought a type rating with their own money. Whether you believe in this practice or not, that money is spent, and the SWA pilots are going to want something for it.
d. For ANY SWA FO, realtive seniority or DOH with Airtran will result in a decrease in expectations. I doubt you could find a single SWA FO that wouldn't fight tooth and nail against either one of those methods.
e. For an Airtran guy, if the deal was 1. increase to SWA pay/work rules 2. relative OR DOH seniority 3. Ability to bid to 5x more domiciles...I'd call that a windfall, all at the expense of SWAPA pilots. I don't think A/M or B/M or any other law/arbitrator would support that

If there is a no bump, no flush agreement, ALL the AAI pilots would maintain their positions in ATL and MCO as long as they don't voluntarily bid out. So, even a staple wouldn't hurt that much, especially is AAI takes SWA pay and work rules.

1 Seat 1 Engine:
Get ready- it will be some sort of weighted ratio. Like I said in my post, you guys have the benefit in the arguments with greater longevity overall and much better pay. It will be weighted in your favor, but don't expect at staple for sure.
You actually want credit for buying your type rating? I'll bite my lip on that practice in the first place.
