What about the entitlement of the older generations that got to skip the regionals altogether? Sorry, but I don't think a more entitled generation exists than the baby boomers. Outside of aviation they had many careers to choose from, all promising a pension, excellent retirement, great benefits, affordable housing, etc.
The way the boomers act, if they were hitting it out on their own today with how things are, they would be in the fetal position crying for their parents to rescue them.

Regionals didn't exist, it was commuters until they could sit sideways on a 727 or came from the military directly. Even I remember as a kid, all the flying I did at a regional used to be flown by mainline. Of course I speak with a broad brush and a whole lot of people were either older than 27 or couldn't compete with all the Vietnam pilots coming back home for a mainline job.
Doesn't change the fact that baby boomers who were raised by the greatest generation of all right after WW2, had a strong middle class to join when they left the nest with tons of jobs promising pensions. They had it much easier than kids today. I am not a millenial, but can see their plight. If they didn't set themself up for a strong career, they are screwed.

You're speaking with something, and it's not a "broad brush". Take a peek at what happened to all those "tons of jobs promising pensions" after they deregulated the airline industry and corporate raiders like Carl Icahn and Frank Lorenzo destroyed the airline industry.

I guess you mean the guys who were in the military, served in places like Vietnam, got hired at an airline and the norm was 5-10 years on the panel, 10-15 years in the right seat, and then bid the most junior captain seat, deregulation, bankruptcies, furloughs, dealing with extremely harsh captains before CRM came along, and then watching their pensions evaporate due to 9/11 right as they get ready to retire? Yeah those guys had it made. They had class, a work ethic, and commanded respect. I’m sure glad that I got to fly with them.
