Tips to NH FO’s or FO’s that aren’t grasping the concept and pet peeves from Capt’s I’ve flown with.
1. Do not touch anything until you cross the hold short line. What if a fed is in the back and sees those flaps coming up while still on an active runway?
2. You are a chameleon in the right seat. Every guy has his own style but do not be afraid to call out guys who don’t abide by SOP’s, GOM, CFM, Etc.
3. If it’s a clear day and especially if it’s a smooth one that red button on the yoke is a fun button. I know coming right outta the sim you’re probably not proficient enough to handfly all the time but slowly start practicing. The CRJ is an absolute joy to handfly once you learn how she likes to be flown.
4. Don’t get complacent flying the visual or ILS every approach. When you start going to places like Mexico you will need to be able to fly CAMPA’s. Practice them even on clear days.

Best place I’ve ever de-iced. Milwaukee. Like an assembly line. Two active trucks. Type 1 and 4 complete in 3 minutes. Awesome.

All good advice. Practice hand flying through configuration changes.

All correct except being a chameleon, fly standard. BE YOURSELF, a captain can have preference as long as they are standard according to our profiles and CFM. I had a FO who asked me hamburger or hotdog 😂. I was like WTF, he told me a captain told him he liked paperwork folded a certain way and was actually mean about it. These captains need a spanking lol. I let my FO's be themselves and I share the cockpit equally with them while maintaining PIC authority. If they do something wrong I kindly show them the CFM and say this is why I do this that way. I guess it's an art some captains have to learn.

I love the fact that all the CAs here are acting like they’re not doing anything wrong. Last line check the LCA literally told the CA that I saved him a trip to phx. Also have had two separate CAs completely **** away the fms load. One didn’t put in a transition on the SID, the other didn’t link the SID and STAR. We also have a captain that likes to do a “soft field takeoff” on 1R because he doesn’t like the bumps on the runway. I’m sure the V1 numbers account for the increased aero drag. Please guys, go ahead and **** on all the FOs because y’all are completely infallible. . .

Some of these just normal mistakes we all make. I love my FO’s that actually go behind me and check my work. It’s required. Do it. The soft field thing should be reported to pro standards. No captains are not perfect. Some have serious issues. These should be reported. Mistakes like a missing transition can get you violated. I’ll say thanks to you for that captain.

apologies to the FOs..
this wasn’t meant to be an FO-bashfest!
CA’s mistakes should brought to their attention as well.

re: flap retraction and lights- personally, I am well clear of the runway before turning them off.

i think anonymously airing these grievances and observations is good.. bringing bad habits or violations to light.
no one is perfect- I never take if an FO points out an error I made. We all forget stuff or get into bad habits and recurrent doesn’t flush many of those out- they’re so focused on cramming in all the required things.

a good review of de-icing procedures and a good review of departures from places like DRO should be incorporated since there are major discrepancies and errors being made in the line.
just my 2c.

im assuming we should put the auto pilot on after the runway heading is flown and “rejoin the arrival “
instructions are given.

Let’s not forget about the CA’s that think they‘re LCA’s. Don’t quiz me on the plane, especially if you have to look up the answer on the study guide or systems manual before you even ask. I passed my checkride.
