$110k for direct entry captains. Current qualified FOs get encouraging emails to upgrade?... Offer the people you have now the incentive and we wouldn’t be as short! People will go where it makes the most financial sense. This is like a cable company offering a low monthly rate for new customers while screwing their current ones. Never works out well for them. The FOs we have can go to another direct entry program and collect that bonus. And they can leave the regionals altogether. Gotta wake up. Times have changed.

By and large FOs don’t want to upgrade because they don’t want to be on reserve. If we get enough of these forever reserve direct entry captains our FOs will upgrade as they won’t be the ones sitting reserve. If they just wanted the money they could go now to another regional, collect the bonus, and sit reserve. It’s not the money.

There was an Instagram post from Mesa yesterday announcing DEC positions available with a guaranteed 2 year flow to United, a 1:1 longevity match and a $110K bonus. Find more info here: https://www.mesa-air.com/direct-entry-captain

It also says you get the first portion of the bonus after IOE, but it doesn’t say how much that is or how long you have to stay to get the rest. They are trying to compete with the other DEC bonus programs but I don’t think that ad will win many people over unless they really like Mesa’s pilot bases. Even then, I hope people realize that DFW/PHX will shrink after the AA flying goes away and might possibly close in the future.

So they are now saying the bonus will be paid in full upon completion of training. Interesting.

Throwing bonus at current FO would solve CA problem.

I disagree. Anyone seeking that bonus can have it now by leaving. So there must be something else keeping them from doing that.
