At the very last minute, Mesa attempted to notify United of the "firm" start dates for the 700 service and United said "prove it". Then the "I'll sue you --- no ---I'll sue you too" dance began and the issue was finally dropped back in 2010. Bottom line --- nope --- Mesa does not have the option of adding additional 700 flying.
I am so happy to have left a particular (not to name names) finely run airline in the pilot exodus that was '07. Sometimes questionable leadership retains the helm way way way beyond their usefulness...just ask the Libyans. Cheers.

It's true... I've gotta ask, why would you wait for a Mesa recall when folks like ASA are hiring flight instructors at job fairs and waiving minimums? More furloughs are just around the corner at Mesa anyway...

Maybe he lives in Phoenix. Maybe he has a very successful business on the side in Phoenix. Maybe his wife makes 6 figures in Phoenix, and he wants to see his kids grow up. Maybe he's 62 years old, and wants to enjoy flying as an airline pilot for a few more years. Maybe he lives in a free country and can do whatever he wants.

I have a few friends taking the recall convinced they will upgrade to captain in a year and then get on with a major shortly after. If you just think about the amount of captains that were down graded and the time to put them back in the left seat is more than a year by itself.

Given, everyone's circumstance is different. As unpredictable as this industry is I wouldn't try to influence anyone's decision either way. We're all basically presented with the same evidence and information upon which to base our decisions. Simply put, it's disheartening to watch people postpone their careers waiting for an airline that might not be waiting for them.

I certainly don't have a crystal ball, but considering that Mesa is scheduled to lose at least 13 more aircraft by the end of next summer, I'd say that's a pretty optimistic prediction.

Could this all mean the end is near... Or just that Mesa will become a US Airways only regional. For some reason US Airways really seems to like them.

I think it means buyout/merger. Smaller regional carriers are no longer viable unless they are wholly owned. Mesa has two few contracts, with too few aircraft, with too short of life span, to be viable for the forseable future... Merge, get bought, or buy someone else...It's the only way the top 250 who are here to stay will avoid having to collect unemployment checks in 2015...

I'd wager a buyout will occur well before 2015. Really depends on how long the creditors who run the airline are willing to wait for the Spirit IPO to get back what they are owed.

Default My 2 cents

Word is theres a budget meeting in the near future (this week?) and management wants to make the financial numbers look as good as possible. Training expenses are obviously a big drain on a financial statement. Perhaps this is a reason to delay the much needed recalls. Problem is management is going to put Mesa back in the same position we were in in 2007 when there was a mass pilot exodus.
Reading the previous posts might make one think there isnt much future for a furloughed pilot at Mesa. The only positive thing i can foresee happening is a buyout or merger. I'm only hoping they are making the numbers look good so they can sell us to another company.
One thing Mesa has is a reserve/glut of pilots (ie: 400+ furloughs). Granted most wont come back but when other regionals run out of staffing and cant fulfill the staffing requirements of their contracts, Mesa may be at an advantage to winning future contracts. (Or be an attractive acquisition target).
