It was inevitable, it's just too small for the overhead.

There are 21 CA’s and 14 FO’s based in HI, and I think 6 airplanes, with a spare now and then. If that operation were to be shuttered tomorrow, aside from the loss of jobs on the ground / ops side, not that they were lucrative anyway, but still jobs, it would be a hiccup. And those pilots and FA’s would be quickly absorbed into the rest of the system. What they would do with those extra CRJ’s is anybody’s guess. [Insert half baked, marginally in the know hypothesis here]. From the rest of the company’s perspective, or just mine, it would be a sigh of relief as it seems to be a distraction from the day-to-day affairs of mismanaging the place.

What I can say, is that for the last couple years “they” have been predicting the eminent closure of GO! regularly. Maybe someday it will close, and the most recent person on the forum to have said so can say, “told ja so!”

Go was never a part of the BK filing. I'm not sure how the lawyers pulled that off but they somehow kept it separate from the rest of Mesa.

Yea, after I posted I spoke with a friend who clarified the airplanes there. fxn2fly, you think they'll every consolidate to just a HNL base? I hear the schedules are getting a little better again too?

They broke the golden rule set down in Hawaii decades ago with their city slicker / mainland ways. NEVER SOUR THE LOCALS!! Aloha Airlines locals fly Hawaiian. You can get new planes. You can change your name. You can give away free tickets. Eh locals fly local.. Why have a base only 100 miles from the main base? Yes Kahului base will close.

Is GO! even profitable? While have 3-5 airplanes out there along with high overhead if you're not making $$$

I've been hearing about this "aloha spirit" for quite a while now and after almost a year here I'm still a bit miffed. The majority of locals I run into seem to love Go!; just as a person might still shop at walmart even though they put their uncle’s bait shop out of business. I find it very hard to believe that Hawaiians are in any way more conscientious consumers than the rest of the country. Go's performance has more to do with mismanagement, MX, customer service, uncomfortable airplanes, etc...
