Hopefully they combine this with a little tougher interview.

Edit: Hell, I'll give you interview prep to help you get the job. I'll give you access to my 1200 CRJ notecards on Quizlet, and I'll walk you through training by helping you study and practice. I'm the guy you wanna PM for a reference.

What JO calls "ill conceived and unscientific", I call "the catalyst needed to improve pay and working conditions in an otherwise exploitative industry."

Man I wish he would spend a month as a first year FO.

Just remember, every 100 of those bad boys costs the company $1 million. But the union and "the books" said there's no money? There will always be just enough money to keep seats warm in training. Notice how we are attriting pilots faster than we are hiring them (in a period of growth) and now the money starts to flow? I hope the MEC/NC gets it this time.

Read this the right way. This isn't a goodwill gesture by JO to line our pockets. CEOs don't do that, especially not in this business and especially not JO. He knows how dire this pilot shortage situation really is (see how he badmouthed the 1500 hour rule which is allegedly the problem) and he's being creative in how he hands out checks. That is called leverage for us. At least he is paying the right people for recruiting/referrals. I wouldn't be surprised to see $10k thrown at the newhires in the next 6 months though, because this shortage won't get better with the current contract.

I about blow a gasket every time I hear non-pilot management like JO say the regulations set forth by pilot types (FAA) are nonsensical. Sure there are flaws with the 1500 hour rule, but but to be clear, Jonathan, if you are reading this, there isn't an airline pilot shortage and the FAA isn't ruining your business. There is an airline pilot pay shortage. That's it. You pay us...we will come and stay for a while. Meanwhile, most of us will bail at the earliest opportunity for bluer skies.

Potential 10k/person referral bonus (most likely 5k after taxes, if they stick around that long) so I can go out of my way to do someone else's job... I can't even afford to eat a cheeseburger at the McDonald's outside of the crew room on first year pay, that'll be a great selling point/attention grabber. Lol

Yeah let's all sell each other out for a buck. Just when you thought this industry couldn't get any more pathetic.
