Brian did the classy thing by bowing out, but did we really need another lecture from him in that email? I would have figured by now that these guys would learn that patronizing us and lecturing in every email is getting old. You are stepping down because you couldn't recognize the pilot groups long term goals, so why are you still telling us that getting rid of this MEC will only hurt our goals. Its time to stop protecting guys like AH, and get some fresh faces in place.

The tone of that email should simply embolden anyone seeking to clean house in this ALPA chapter. We an MEC that actually represents the majority of the pilot group.

Well the tone for the last 6 months has been compleatly wrong. Making excuses left and right for the company, talking down to the pilots, so on and so on. No other alpa carrier has had this bad of a tone ever. Just because you have a lot of time and work put in a contract does not mean you defend a bad ta

Oh and wait.... Now they pay attention to crew room banter and what's on the message boards. Hearing talk of a recall..... Right. I thought anything not at a road show was not true

1) 2/3 majority of the MEC votes to recall another MEC officer internally (I don't see this happening here)
or
2) Email your reps at least 15 days in advance of an LEC meeting telling them that you would like to add a motion to recall on the list of agenda items for the meeting. During the meeting "A simple majority of roll call votes in favor of recall shall be sufficient to effect the recall of an MEC (LEC?) officer."
At that meeting, you need to motion to recall whoever. That motion needs to be seconded by another person at the meeting. However, if a roll call of pilots at that meeting results in a simple majority in favor of recall, the rep in question is automatically recall (in effect, that LEC has recalled the rep in question).
Then I can't remember if they schedule a recall meeting or if they put it to a vote of the pilot group.

The whole idea of a 'representative democracy' (read MEC) is that those elected (or appointed) REPRESENT the constituency. That's YOU.
If they don't, 1.) tell them to do so, and if they don't (2.) boot their butts out and get new ones who understand this simple principle.
They don't work for airline management, they don't work for ALPA (or other national) union HQ. They work for YOU.
True, they may have to deal with all of the above, but in finding their way through conflicting interests, they can't loose sight of the basic principle: They work for YOU. Part of their job involves explaining those conflicting interests to you, but it's too darn easy for them to forget: They work for YOU.
Remind them. As needed!

I recently flew with a Captain who brought up a good point: why can't we hire outsourced professionals for our contract negotiations? We were all hired here to safely fly a chunk of metal from A to B. How many of us are actually trained in formal contract language and negotiations?
