Quote: I think flying right seat as a captain is a great thing. It allows new captains to continue to build on the fundamentals they may have not gotten when they originally upgraded, while still being compensated as a captain. This is definitely a selling point recruiters should be using. People talk about upgrading but a lot of guys are afraid to take that leap. This allows experienced captains to mentor new captains until proficiency is reached.
This is about the craziest thing you've said yet ... and that's saying something! People shouldn't be upgraded to CA unless they're already fully qualified and capable. Period.

I wouldn't mind flying the E135/145 for United but they are retiring them left and right and by time I finish my education they will be all gone.
It's not "new jet syndrome" although I agree some people have it. We have to look at Republic, Mesa, and SkyWest because E-Jets are gonna be what we fly in a few years.

When you were 16 and got your license I'm sure you still drove with your parents and not by yourself everytime. Same in this situation, you never quit learning in life. This demonstrates Mesa cares about their pilot development more than anything.

You're a freakin nut. The only thing it demonstrates is that Mesas crappy FO pay is coming back to bite them and the only way they can keep planes in the air now is to use all of their reserve captains in the right seat. If you think it has anything to do with them being conscientious or caring then it's either the koolaid or the crack pipe. And, after I got my license the only time my parents rode with me was if they needed a ride. When I got my license it was because I demonstrated to New York State that I could safely operate a car without anyone else in it. What planet are you from, I'm curious?
