I think flying right seat as a captain is a great thing. It allows new captains to continue to build on the fundamentals they may have not gotten when they originally upgraded, while still being compensated as a captain. This is definitely a selling point recruiters should be using. People talk about upgrading but a lot of guys are afraid to take that leap. This allows experienced captains to mentor new captains until proficiency is reached.

That's what is supposed to happen. Why are they waiting till they hit captain to start doing those things? Both pilots are equally responsible for the flight. Why first officers set there and just be is beyond anything I can comprehend.

And QOL is found at Mesa? What's the junior line holder DFW/CA DOH now? And how consistently are they holding a line month to month? Oh, PIC time? How are you logging that while sitting right seat since Mesa can't staff properly and you fly Cap on Cap? How about the "time off" you speak of? CS calls you after a trip for a "junior assignment" and because you don't know contract language you accept it and lose said "time off".
Now, maybe if you join the ranks of recruiter like you did (it's not hard to tell based on your posts selling the place) your QOL staying home in PHX would increase. So you have to lie to some folks and tell them how awesome Mesa is from time to time. No big deal....QOL for you is great and its got to be better than flying a Saab, but hey what you fly doesn't matter right?

Forgot to ask if we should all have the same "Vision" to go become an "alley giant" before we become a yellow bus driver?

Why dont you stop posting on here and improve your life. Looking back at your post you seem to suffer from the "jaded small man syndrome" Where your whole life sucks and you bring that negativity on the forum. How bout share the pros, cons and then let them decide . Ill call your mom right now and tell her you need a hug and tug. How bout DAT!

Look dude you will find the pros and cons at every airline. choose what is most important to you, your family, and your goals. For me my friends are all still going to be sitting right seat making 40k while i will be in the left seat making 70k.
People like Mesa Mentor and a few others come here to vent. Ignore that crap. Go run the numbers, do your own research, ask the right questions and make the most educated decision you can.
Numbers dont lie and only bank on what is currently happening not what could be not what is projected.
At mesa you get a line quick, usually 2-4 months depending on the equipment. 22-24 month upgrade, Decent bases, none of that LGA BS. You go to work do your job and then go home and have a life.

Sitting right seat after you've upgraded isn't as beneficial as you think. Yes it's good to get some perspective but once half your monthly flying is as FO it takes away from your flows and overall effectiveness as a PIC. Does it really sound good for a new upgrade captain to finish IOE then do 2 trips as FO then go back to the left seat. Part of what makes us safe is our proficiency swapping seats all the time degrades that. Minimally that is but it's still a difference.

Yes and no.
Granted upgrade time has been falling the last few years but there is always more than meets the eye.
Envoys projected 2.5 year upgrade is more like 6.5 Look at their standing bid. The flow is a joke.
Go jet is hiring street captains and then paying them FO pay in lovely Detroit. So if you want to go to Detroit go to Gojet.
Skywest is 3 years according to their last standing bid if upgrading on the 200.
PDT is a solid 2 year upgrade but their future is questionable. They are so ecstatic to be receiving 30 year old jets. Rumors of a merger with PSA are in the air.
Sky west is liquidating Express jet daily. You will see them go under shortly.
Air Wisconsin, great airline but their future has been unstable for 3 years. Who knows what will happen with them.
Compass and Rjet is dropping flying left and right. Compass stopped its hiring due to loosing 9 ejets.
To each their own. We all make career decisions for our own reasons.
