A little bit about myself, I have approx 2700TT and been working with a startup 135 for past 3 years on a work visa and finally got sponsored for Green Card without having to find someone marry. I liked what I do, but there’s no room for me to grow with the company and I’m just looking for something new to learn and hopefully grow. Any inside info on hiring would be greatly appreciated, I saw they are still posting pilot hiring every now and then and I understand it’s different now compared to when I initially applied.
If you've got a flying job right now I'd hang out. Lots of pilots are on the street and the possibility of more to follow. Mesa has a pool of applicants right now, not to mention those who were sent home from training. What happens over the next few months will determine what the industry is going to look like moving forward. And I'd use that to gauge where you actually want to be.

keep your current job. Be thankful you have somewhere to work. As bad as this may sound to you, there are a TON of VERY qualified American pilots on the street right now. Hunker down and wait it out.

Seriously. We get more line/standards checks than anyone. We have to. Nobody I know at other airlines gets even a fraction of the number we get.
Anyone know the reasoning behind this?

thats probably because you have a LCA doing a line check to get bigger credit vs DHing in the back.

I think they are supposed to do line checks every scheduled DH. And you guys in IAH have a million LCA. I dont get a line check in IAD until it’s required.

I am at a different shop, where I am at. Everytime we have a LCA DHing on a flight, he is going to come doing a “line check” to credit more than would if he rode in the back unless there is a commuter.

yeah they do that too. But this is not that.. just seems like we have substantially more than other places. No big deal- just do your job to standards and you’re good. Just seems like we’re CONSTANTLY being checked up on.

I had almost none my first year and a half here, keep in mind those aren’t line checks, they are stands checks. But if I had to guess the FAA got upset that MESA was doing so little of them that now MESA has gone overboard and went to the other extreme, in typical MESA fashion.

There's a Quota the FAA wants. But I've had two in the last two trips and one was because a non consolidated FO needed a OBS flight and the other was because an FO was due a line check. If you are a CA you will get caught up in what the FO's need.

Probably because of all the pilots Mesa has that fall under the requirements of advisory circular 121-39.
