The best thing the UAS has going for it is you can have a steady and predictable life. When I was in Sierra Vista with the UAS, I was home daily at the same time, never missed my daughter's soccer games, ate dinner with the family each night. It wasn't a bad gig, and the technology is pretty impressive. I'm glad I had the opportunity to do it, I show people pictures of helicopters or planes and they think it's neat, show them the MQ9 and they are like WOW AWESOME

What are the chances of getting San Diego? What aircraft are flown there? Are there any other bases in California?

I think they are still flying out of March ARB, but it’s been a while since I was there.

Sierra Vista is really a great place to live. Temperatures are around 10 degrees cooler than Tucson, and the mountain views are beautiful. My wife use to comment the traffic was almost a non-issue, she could run to the grocery store at anytime of the day and not encounter large traffic. The only issue we found with living in SV, was the public schools are lacking. Fortunately for us I was still in the Army Reserve and was able to get our daughter enrolled in the DoD school at Fort Huachuca. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't mind it, SV was very pretty and you can live pretty well on our salary there.

Is Sierra the only UAV base?

I’m surprised you retired from Customs and kept working.

[QUOTE=Gilligan13;3963897]Is Sierra the only UAV base? /QUOTE]

San Angelo Texas is the other UAS location. I was never stationed there; however, I did a 2 week TDY there to help out when their office was understaffed. They have a huge facility (compared to SV tiny one) and it was a large city with every amenity you could need. I actually enjoy working any my current 135 has a 15/13 schedule so I'm only working half the month which is half the year, so I'm happy, family is happy and it allows me to live a comfortable lifestyle.
