The same can be said about many warrants. There are plenty of RLOs who are good aviators and good officers. Many are at the airlines now. Sure there are some who don’t become good pilots...some of whom don’t have much of a chance due to not being available to fly (outside their control), or often times due to warrants controlling the flight schedule and not scheduling them in the limited window of opportunities for them to fly. There are some who just don’t prioritize flying and don’t make themselves available, but I wouldn’t say that’s the majority. But the same can be said of some turd warrants (whose sole job is to fly and do some minor additional duty)...especially some of the guys coming to these RTPs these days in this regional hiring environment. Plenty never made PC, certainly were not tracked, and weren’t exactly a shining example of a good aviator. I wouldn’t quite paint all commissioned army aviators with such a broad brush as you did, and I sure as hell wouldn’t use “commissioned officer” as a derogatory term to describe the way someone is acting. That doesn’t exactly reflect well on the warrant officer corps, or yourself.

Also, the OP said he’s a C12 IP. How many RLOs are C12 IPs? If he is an RLO, he slid into one of very few RLO FW IP slots, which is something turd RLOs typically don’t do. He went to college and a 141 training program 12 years ago before joining the army. I don’t know how his post makes it look like he’s “acting like a commissioned officer.” Just because he isn’t that educated on the airlines (he’s still 2 years out mind you) and is seeking info on how to better prepare, he’s acting like a commissioned officer (in a derogatory way)? Yeah ok. The only thing negative I saw was his lack of SA with regards to his “a major slot that is waiting for me” comment. TOTD.

Very well, said. Some of my best mentors were true quiet professionals that understood their lane and kept me in mine - professionally. Plenty of guys that spouted off like FNG, beating their chest to mainly the WOJGs who were the only ones impressed.

I wouldn’t expect much less from a guy who is lamenting:

“I almost missed a couple of commutes because wholly owned crew members got positive space to work and I didnt on weight restricted flights.”

Got it all figured out Chief

The vast majority of people in this forum are commissioned officers, you're probably preaching to the wrong choir.

Yes, I’ve heard of the book, will be reading it soon.
The book and internet threads like this one will elaborate on what your plans should include...

Timing your exit...2011 update

The transition plan should be deliberate with dates and goals. Exactly the date when you are going to start working on your app, having your logbooks and flight times converted from Mil to Civ etc. Publishing your apps at 8 months out is late as the hiring process is typically 6 months long and the notion that your application will trigger an immediate interview at submission is naive. Target having apps completed around 14-16 months and then have your letters of rec added to the applications NLT 12 months. Know the annual pattern of job fairs and their locations as you may want to target a few of those before your 12 month window opens. The majors have all started some "internal" job fairs either virtually (AA) or annually at their facility (UAL). Do you know where to look for those announcements?

-When are you going to shop for suits and get them tailored?
-Do you have a list of all your bubbas with email addresses and telephone numbers and where they work?
-Have you kept in touch with your friends to find out if they like their airline jobs and why?
-Do you know which companies that want electronic vs paper letters of rec?
-Which companies are you targeting?
-Have you started building folders for each company with specific information about their hiring and interview practices? (Airline Apps wants flight time reported slightly differently than PilotCredentials - DAL wants schools and training listed very distinctly and UAL does not but they both use the same application site)
-Are you going to move and if so when?
-Have you set down with the family and talked about the transition and how it will impact everyone?
-Did you build a savings goal for your separation date and how much? (I wanted $60K cash on hand to help cover first 2 years at a regional)

That's the stuff that goes into Plan A, B etc.

Most folks I speak with never truly understand how hard the transition is and how much TIME it takes to build and execute a good plan. Getting a job is a full time job.

Good luck and congrats on completing your service. The grass truly is greener on the other side.
