The computer DOES sort apps. If you apply and do nothing else you'll have to wait until your app floats to the top and gets reviewed.

But ANY DL pilot who you happen to know can simply send an email and get your app reviewed in the next cycle. That's what you'd want to do for sure, that will get human eyes on your app for sure (vice waiting for the computer which score you lower).

Potential public and media scrutiny is a big factor if you have an incident. If you had a misdemeanor open container offence a decade ago, it could be twisted in the media as "Pilot had passed history of alcohol trouble". Just yesterday I read the media coverage of how the helicopter pilot that died with the group that included Kobe Bryant had history of violating FAA rules. People can change but that history doesn't go away and there is no guarentee how that can be seen to people on the outside looking in.

I read that too about the helo pilot.
Being FAA bust they will be on record if something ever did happen at your future employer that makes the media, "pilot had failed several tests before joining ___ AIRLINE"
Show them you're they one vs the other candidate without the record of FAA busts and let them decide, that's all you can do.

This is 180 out from what they told us at indoc, at Delta. Humans, and only humans grade each app. An email from a Delta pilot gets your app pulled from the pile and scored within 30 days, vs waiting until it's the next in line.

Edit - they specifically mentioned there is no computer algorithm eliminating apps or pushing them to the bottom of the pile for negative info in your app (failed checkrides, traffic tickets, etc.)

Could have changed, haven't talked to people in the know for a while. But you're saying they manually sort ALL apps?

That's what they told us at indoc. They all go into a pile and get graded by humans, first in, first out, unless you get an email from a Delat pilot. If so, your app is pulled from wherever it is in the pile and graded manually. This was 5+ years ago. I'll check with the hiring folks and see if they'll confirm/deny.

Bottom line for the OP, it really doesn't matter since there's nothing you can do about what each company does. Be honest on your (many) applications and see what happens. Don't sweat what you can't control.

Do you know what happens when they catch and release? Does a highly qualified applicant go back to the bottom of the pile and all the noobs with recent apps get considered before they look at him again?

No! Think positive! Aviation is about developing the art of constantly recognizing and correcting errors so put it behind you and apply to everyone you want to work for as well as obtain interview preparation. I have no doubt you will succeed!

When I spoke to some interview prep services about a similar situation they told me that as long as it’s been several years and have a clean military record you don’t have anything to worry about. I can’t remember the number they said but it was definitely less than 10. I ended up staying active duty so I don’t know for sure if it’s true.
