Take it and stay if that's the case. That coming from a very happy guy who bailed at 14 years.

Don't spend it. Invest it and you won't really sweat that airline transition very much when it is time to retire...

I'm surprised the bonus is still kicking. Guess retention is still an issue...

They are paying young guys to get out, paying old guys to stay in...I don't think they really know what they are doing. As for staying in or getting out, I am very happy to have left after 9.5 yrs, but still do the reserves (non flying).

Paying to stay and paying to leave!?! It's too bad the Air Force doesn't have any money these days. I can't imagine what they'd be doing if they did...

-"Here's the deal; you have to choose between $100K cash to stay or get out and we'll throw in a brand new, 3 year old plasma tv...never used."

Totally different money colors/pots. Pay to get out is for overmanned yeargroups to avoid excess retirement payouts down the road. Pay to stay in is just the opposite, in theory- In reality- What a Joke!

AMC A1 just sent out an email saying it would "severely compromise the USAF's warfighting capability" if the bonus was eliminated.

Haven't heard a confirmation on the increase to $40K, but I did hear the rumor.

I heard the rumor within the last year from a bullet paper written by a Lt Col on Air Staff.

The Bonus is currently $25K/year (pre-tax) for 5 years for pilots. In previous years you could take it in lump sum all up front, but not this year.

I'm eligible for the FY08 bonus--details on that won't be announced until ~December which happens to be the end of my commitment. Decisions, decisions.....
