Army Captain Career Incentives
I never thought I'd see the day that the Army came out with incentives to keep Captains in the service. The new message out says that DA is trying to retain 95% of all captains in year groups 99-04. They are dangeling small carrots to get us to stay on an additional 3 years (non concurent to our present ADSO's) which would put most all of us at or past that magical 10 year mark or 8 year Avn career incentive pay. Small carrots being the way to keep us around for a full 20.
I don't see that $35,000 for three more years on top of what we've alread got is worth it to an Aviation Captain. There seems to be a zero missing at the end of that number.
Grad School option? Perhaps some will grab at that but it is targeted at the 03/04 guys so would an "old" Captain really have a shot?
Post of choice and 24 month stabilization? Ask to go to Carson and be in the Rockies, I bet you won't get two ski seasons before you're back on a deployment.
Ranger School? Maybe a young LT would go for that but after a few years I think most don't care any more about the "hooah" training.
This incentive plan may pull a few people off the fence and will be a nice gift to those already intending to stay in, but it surely is way to little, way too late to retain 95% of the Captains.
