Air National Guard
I am currently in training with a regional airline. I have about 5 weeks of training left and I also interested in the guard. How hard is it to get a pilot spot? Also how long is the training? Thanks.

Let me preface this with, "I'm active duty", but. The training process is the same. You'll obviously have to find a unit that will "hire" you. Then when all that's done, you'll have to go through 6-12 weeks of officer training school. Then you'll have to go to UPT, which was a year when I went through, I don't know how long it is now. Then you go to the FTU for your airframe, Altus, Little Rock, Kelly (for the heavies). The FTU's range anywhere from 3.5 months to 6 months. I went from starting OTS to graduating my FTU (C-17) and finishing combat/water survival training in just shy of 24 months. I had no casual time or delays in training so I'd say that's pretty close to the quickest you could do it. Good Luck.

Well, my unit (c-17s) is having an interviews next week. They have this interview board once a year, and they have already screened all the applicants before they decide who they even want to come in for an interview.... They are only looking to hire one person. That should sum up how competitive/"hard" it is to get a pilot slot in the guard/reserves.

www.baseops.net if you havent already been there. Good job listing for ANG units. Limelight is accurate in his list of what all you do to get there. I just got on at a Regional and finished all my survival stuff, long time of waiting and training, but well worth it.
