Default FY08 AF Pilot Bonus

I was just looking over the new FY08 guidance and had a quick question. When determining eligibility, it says 9 years aviation service (YAS) as pilot. Are they trying to say 9 years from starting UPT, or 9 years from getting winged? Thanks!

Ouch... Finish my commitment this year, but only have 8 winged years. Guess it's back to the airline vs military debate.

It is for people who finish up their committment this FY. Like you. That is the whole point of having the bonus. You will not be eligible next FY.

9 years from starting UPT. More specifically from the beginning of your aviation service date unless you have something unique like long term DNIF.

Are you sure? Because flight pay is based on the start date of UPT. I'm only a part-timer so I never looked into it much.

There is alot of stuff going on at my unit relating to this...now this is from the Guard Bureau regs which may be different and the verbage is this "10 years from the commencement of pilot training"...if I said to you, "you may commence eating", that means you can start right? Therefore, commence in this case means beginning, however a commencement ceremony or speech is given at graduation....hmmmmmnnn, see the quandry...my unit says 10 years from wings (bastards), I say 10 from starting UPT, guess who's gonna win that battle...FWIW, I was winged 1OCT98 but my paperwork says 22SEP98 (it's not the day you had your ceremony, it's the day the HARMS people updated your records, btw). Anywho, maybe next year right?

If you want some more ammo for your guard unit, show them your Aeronautical Orders. They start on day 1 of academics in UPT, and theat's when they start counting flight pay too.

Yup, I know that and they know that it's just convincing them that I should get the bonus this year, VERY hard going at this juncture since I'm the only one in my unit remotely close, either people have 14+ years in and are getting it or they graduated post 9/11 and have a long way to go so I am a lone ranger on this one pardner!

In my active duty case, I was a May 99 Grad of SUPT w/ 8 year contract- I left in Jan of 07 at my 12 year active duty point (prior non flyer). The end of that period May 99 to May 07) was when my bonus was coming up, FY 07 money, May 07 calendar, 8 years AFTER pilot training. SO- sq/cc never got dinged for me be a negative to the "take rate" and I don't show as eligible to even "take" making retention look 1 better, at least. You can stay around w/o an active duty service commitment, and you have to drop papers to create a DOS- but the bonus is a one time offering this FY, and I think you're up to bat.

This is not a question to be answered on a free forum (as good as it can be) head over to your do-it-your-self career clinic hobbyshop flesh peddler at Persco/CBPO/Personnel/whatever the acronym of the week/OPR cycle is and have them earn their pay by giving you the wrong answer, officially.

Ah, what I meant to say- If you ask your Sq/CC you may be in for a sit down speech/interrogation- if you ask a bro you may get the wrong answer- if you ask Personnel it's their job to tell you all about it.
