Hey folks,

Any word on how many AF pilots are getting "recruited" for Kirkuk UPT?

I think the Iraqis are onto something, judging from this quote:

In "the Iraqi air force, the only thing that matters is your ability to be a pilot."

Maybe we're sending some of our guys over there to learn how to get rid of the quarterly awards process and focus on flying?

They (Iraqi AF) stood up a small C-130 squadron while I was at Tallil (Ali to you USAF dudes). I think they were using already trained pilots and American IPs. They flew a few missions and then it fizzled out. I wouldn't want to be flying GA around Kirkuk right now. I hope they have a plan for when the training center gets it from IDF.

They were previous Iraqi pilots but calling them trained is debatable...pretty scary stuff. It was American IPs that flew with them for training and instruction. It didn't fizzle out...it moved locations and is still going strong with their own air mission.

Very interesting. I wonder if the training flights are considered combat missions. As long as you take off or land in the zone, it counts....right?

Yes that is correct, but actually you don't have to TO or land in the box, simply breaking the airspace is enough, so-to-speak.
