It would be my *guess* that the burners were in the plan since it was night time and it was planned as part of the show. It did look good though. I've never done a night time fly-by.

Did she sing "gave proof *to* the night"? That's not how I learned it in school.

She did indeed. I can not believe that performers (Americans) don't know the national anthem.

just heard this mentioned on the Drive with Cris Meyers on XM 142. People did notice the earliness.

Some of the toughest I have done are the fly-bys for burials at Arlington. Very complicated to coordinate both on the ground (takes three people - one at Washington Center, one graveside, and one at the cemetery on the radio) then the holding point is VFR to the east of the cemetery and they have to come across Regan National - shutting down ops for a few. As tough as it is though - it is very satisfying and very moving.

Was representing Navy in Oct for one of our MIA later classified KIA finally repatriated and laid to rest in October at Arlington. The Hornet lead hit TOT exactly on time. Family and his old squadron (VA-163) were mightily impressed. The run in angle was spot on. Wish I was flying, but felt proud of my fellow aviators who hopefully knew how important their efforts were to so many Americans. We explained to the family the whole coordination process and pointed out the ground players, they were moved that the military and country went to such great effort to bestow the flyby honor to a LTJG shot down and killed in an A-4 near Hanoi 42 years earlier.
They nodded when we explained that is why they saw a parade of so many Reagan airliners going by after the fly by <g>.

Agreed....and I have NO DOUBT that the aircrew knew/knows how important and meaningful the fly-over is and what it signifies. It is absolutely worth the time, effort and coordiantion required (even as far as disrupting flight ops at Reagan for a couple of minutes IMO)

Listen at 24 seconds into the video, then listen to what sounds like the same person around 1:56.

Default Fly Over

Rose Bowl 2002, the "Bats" had a division of D's which = 8 dudes. About a minute late, of course -4 WSO probably know all along but didn't want to get his bag smashed for speaking up...Cameras pan up to an empty sky...Bryant Gumbal continues talking then is drowned out by the roar of GE402's...For about a month we would call the Div lead for a time hack, he eventually quit answering his phone!!!
