Default C-17 Gear Up

Heard through the grapevine a C-17 landed gear up in Bagram. Anyone heard anything?

True-unfortunately. It was a CHS AD crew. Info is pretty limited now. It has closed Bagram since then.

I think we set ourselves up for it. Many variables that combine for the toxic stew- TACC, Tactical mindset, poor ATC, wx, terrain, Talibany, AD crews that have limited experience, duty days, fatigue, NVG issues etc

Guys should be able to fly the jet without having to rely on DLC to cover for lack of energy mgt. Yes, one of my pet peeves.

Moose-are you from CHS? In the reserves? Which sq?

was on the ground at OAKN when it happened but details are very limited at this time. Many factors that probably contributed but wx did not seem to be one that night. Not going to speculate but can see how this could happen. Tac arrival with no gear comes to mind but we shall see. Personally I am on my 4th max duty day in a row. Thought this had changed after the last incident at oaix but tacc continues to disappoint. Sure they will blame an improperly filled out orm worksheet

Although I have no idea what happened in this instance...

This is my opportunity to highly encourage others to do a gear down 1/2 flap "slow" (airspeed) descent. It's nice to have the approach and landing checklists done above F200 and have nothing to worry about other than threat avoidance and finding the runway.

"Too Low Gear" - "crew that's acknowledged we're visual" - and I'm willing to bet that's exactly what was said cause C-17 guys had been using that verbiage for years - there was an AP article out on it, so far that's all I've seen. Feel for the crew - once again probably set up to fail...

No, we should always just fly gear down so we dont forget to run checklists.

you can never be too conservative!

This guy in his blog says it was just the nose, but I heard from a guy that heard from a guy that heard from a "guy" at bagram it was gear up 1/2 flaps....

Well, i just saw some pictures; it was all gear up. Cant confirm the flaps, I would have to go look at a jet with flaps past 1/2 to compare.
