The last time I added a rating was in 98, so could this be a new change?

Joe
Joe - The change is recent, but not THAT recent. I don't know exactly when. The general idea is that all types are done to ATP standards regardless of your license, so as soon as you get the ATP the types are booted upstairs. Also (and I can't see where this should make a difference) your first ATP was SEL, and of course your (multi) type(s) would not upgrade for that. Under current rules your L-300 would have changed when you got your MEL ATP, but I don't know when you picked up that class of ATP. It could be some examiner got confused and didn't show it when you first got the MEL - and the mistake just carried forward. It could be this was pre some rule change. It's certainly worth calling some FSDO or ATP DE (you want somebody with some experience) or somebody at OKC. You might be entitled to an "upgrade".

Hmmmm...

I got my commercial/instrument by taking the regs test and showing my military flight records in 1996, and my BE-400 & MU-300 type ratings were put on my certificate at that time. I added the B-707 and B-720 type ratings in 1999. I got my ATP in 2001 in a Piper Seminole.

My Certificate reads:

Airline Transport Pilot
Airplane Multiengine Land
B-707; B-720; BE-400; MU-300
Commercial Privleges
Airplane Single Engine Land

English Proficient

Interesting how I don't get the single engine under ATP. I don't pretend to know the rules but I guess your check in a single engine got you yours. You must have added the multiengine with one of your checks later.

It's not good for a whole lot, but the rating is available. You have to take the ride in a SEL. A lot of people have it. Again, until an ATP MEL is added the type ratings won't change, nor should they.

I guessing here--You got your original ATP in a Cessna 172? So (perhaps) at the time you added the L-300 rating, you did NOT have an ATP-AMEL? If that was the case, then IAW 14 CFR 61.73, you were not entitled to to a type rating on your ATP, since you did not already possess the multi-engine Category and Class rating.

Side note: unless you've had a military checkride in an L-300 in the last twelve calendar months, it's too late to add the type rating to your ATP now. Interesting, but likely moot, given the excellent type ratings that you do have!

If your initial ATP (MEL) examiner erred in not "upgrading" the L-300, then there may still be hope. Talk to somebody. Having your old logs and military paperwork might be useful.

If your contact is on the east coast and want's the name of a good EP that can knock out his ATP in a day if he's up to speed PM me.

The AWACS sim was updated to a full motion level D sim in 2002, which means we can update flight currencies in it. There are circuit breakers, and the visuals were just updated in the past year- I don't know if that raises the level any more. It is very comparable to the 737 sim at Continental (motion, visuals) that I used in my interview. I'm in OK right now. Thanks for all the information!

I am debating about becoming an FAA designated examiner in the 707 (KC135) to help my fellow tanker buds get their ATP just like the Ohio dude did a while back. Anyone know how to do this or what's required?

Discjockey78-

PM me please. I know you, "sorta" by nametag and name. You used to room with a good buddy of mine, back in the day, and I'd like to take you up flying GA for fun.

The type-rating following the certificate level changed August 4, 1997....

Most who had an ATP with comm'l level mil-obtained B-707 & L-188 ratings from before 1997, & who hadn't got a new type since then, probably got it fixed, if they were cognizant, with the "English proficient" addition, or the change to plastic certificates.
