Default Question About Becoming USAF Pilot.

Hello Everyone,

I'm 24 years old, and I am considering becoming an Air Force pilot. From what I've read, I have three options to become a pilot. Of them, only OTS applies to me (already have a 4 year degree).

Here's a little bit of information about me:

I have a bachelors degree summa cum laude in biology (chemistry minor) from New York University (3.87 gpa). I am also in the process of completing a master's degree in biomedical engineering from Columbia University (current 3.85 gpa). I'm 6'1", lift weights every day for 2 hours, and have been told by people that I look like a pilot should. I was going to go to medical school, but things have changed.

Several Questions:

1) Would OTS accept me ?
2) How long after OTS will I be able to be a pilot?
3) What are the chances they'll ship me to some crap country in the middle of nowhere?

Any other information you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

1. Based only on the info given, probably.

2. Not sure, could be up to a year from stories I've heard in the past.

3. Probability is high. If it's a concern, reconsider your career choices.

Thanks for replying Slice. Where would the Air Force send me after OTS to get my pilot training? Thanks Again.

That alone isnt reason enough to pursue a career with the USAF... My advice.. Go to a local FBO take an Intro flight and see if flying is something you'd want to do. Second, Go talk with some USAF pilots at your local AFB and see what it all entails and whether or not its for you.
Third, you just might get stuck in a UAV can you accept that?????

Really!

I really like question #3. For review, the purpose of the Air Force and the reason the taxpayers fund it IS NOT to be a jobs program - despite what the purposes of other government programs are. The purpose of the Air Force is to fight wars. As much as we would all like to live on the beach, show for work at 10:00am, and fly 6-9 times/week, it never works out that way. As much as we want to go to war with Amsterdam in the Dutch Antilles, it never works out that way. But then again, maybe it does for those who are 6'1", work out 2 hrs/day, and are constantly told they look like a pilot. We have to film the recruiting videos someplace nice.

I most certainly realize that alone doesn't qualify me for anything. However, I can't help but notice that most pilots are good looking. I'm just saying.......

I'm going to talk to a recruiter next week.

I'm willing to die for this country. Hey, I'm 24, how much longer can my looks last anyway? I'm no *****. If I wanted to just be a pilot, I would go to Embry-Riddle.

Wow...... Forget OTS, Forget Survival School, Forget UPT Training throw this guy right into the AURORA... Heck, you can right your own ticket... Where would you like to be based? Wanna instruct at "Red Flag' or "Top Gun"?
Cause you know good looking pilots have a license to kick a$$ and win wars....

Only if the AURORA is still being tested at Area-51. I've always wanted to have a tour of that place.
