It's here, financial crisis number 45876 for the AFRES. They just told us, we have no money...not for AFTP's, AT, RPA, or UTA's. Really, how am I supposed to get paid then? I've seen bad times in my 15 yrs but this is the worst. We aren't even halfway thru the fiscal yr and we're out of money (again)? I find it almost comical that SECDEF Gates and CJCS Mullen are in front of congress lobbying for FY12's budget when congress hasn't approved FY11's budget and we are operating on a shoestring. Grrrrrr....

Wow, I could actually stand to have some ATFPs cut out. I am sure they will be screaming that everyone still get their 48 and 48 come August.

It will get attention when multiple units lapse on readiness requirements.

Or when dudes don't get their sorties and end up so far out of currency that they need another MQT or a TX Course. Talk about $$$$$$$$!

Talked with a Luke reserve part-timer, who said he was only getting 5 days a month. That he means he has to fly every day he goes in to maintain currency. Which isn't hard when you're teaching in the B-course, in a place that gets 1 day of cloud cover a year. But for the guys up north that have $hitty weather, coupled with MX cancels, it could get interesting quick.

Same with our unit. We are even talking of canceling sorties or not having TRs fly on them.

Are you "grrrrr[ing]" at SecDef and CJCS or Congress for their snail's pace?

You guys realize that this is all because we're still under a CR right? CR ends on 4MAR and when that happens we'll get another CR(assuming no budget is signed into law) and the reserve world will get money again, granted not as much as they normally would. I think we all know that less $$ will be the case moving forward over the next few yrs.

I would hate to think what would happen in the paper hallways if SecDef and CCJSC weren't already alying ground work for next FY. Leaning forward is the only way to go when planning (asking in this case) for money. Wait around for Congress to actually make something happen prior to having a plan (or having presented it) and you are going to be so far behind you'll never catch up. Mu opinion. They are doing exactly what the systen demands of them in this case.

I know all about the CR...I thought I heard congress was required by law to pass the budget by Oct 01 for that fiscal yr, we are almost halfway thru it. Even if that's not true, I think it's kind of ridiculous to go 6 (or more) months w/o a budget, not sure any other business could do that...sorry to rant, sometimes, I expect too much from my govt.

Anybody else see the lack of common sense in transforming a "strategic" reserve force into an "operational" reserve force but with less money? Those are their terms, not mine...
