FAA Med Certs / Military Medical

It was my understanding that the AF doesnt do this anymore. The reason I heard was a civilian raised a stink about having to pay for a FAA physical where the AF guys got it for free. Probably just a rumor, but it wouldnt suprise me if the AF buckled under this type of bad press.
If no AF docs are authorized do a Class 1, then you will have to go pay for one for your ATP.

You do not need a Class I for an ATP. You may need one for an airline app.

What LowSlow states above is correct as far as DoD flight physicals being accepted as Class III's. Back in 2010 I believe those changes were relatively new. We coordinated with our examiner ahead of time to confirm this and all he needed was a copy of our "up chit". He just made a note on our paperwork that it was a Mil flight phys.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but thought it was better than starting a new one.
From what I have read in this topic, a certified military flight physical qualifies as an FAA Class III medical. I am a recent USAF UPT pilot select that also just had a AF IFC1 Flight Physical approved. I would like to do some flying again before I head to OTS in January, however I let my Class III medical lapse while I was a broke college student. So my question is, what do I need to do to now to get my FAA Class III medical back. Do I have to show proof of the physical to my civilian flight doc, or does the med staff where I took my Air Force physical need to take care of it? Will I still have to pay for the FAA Class III medical?
Thanks

Current proof of military flight physical allowing you to operate an aircraft is all you need. Nothing to pay for.

For the Air Force it's a form 1042 that indicates your physical qualification. For a pre-screening physical before OTS, I'm not sure if they'd issue a 1042 - check your paperwork to see if they gave you one, or call the clinic that did the physical to see if you can get a copy.
This is purely speculation, but it's possible that the AF doesn't issue the 1042 until you actually start flying - you'll have another initial screening with the Flt Doc when you start UPT.

I can make an educated guess that you won't get a 1042 until you begin UPT. The 1042 is an annual requirement and we don't want you to have to take a day out of training to go see the doc for a physical which is what would happen if your preOTS physical was used.

I just had my flight physical, after not flying for awhile. I talked with the flight school that I am going to using my Post 9/11 GI Bill at, and they told me to receive my VA benefits for my additional ratings I needed to have a Class II medical. I'm waiting on the FAA to approve it right now.
