One of the first witnesses the crash was a resident of Cholok-Samat Onobasov irrigation ditch, which at that time tending cattle. According to him, he clearly saw the plane exploded in the air and split into three parts. "Immediately saw thick black smoke. Nothing could be seen. I got scared and ran away, fearing for their safety. One of the shepherds lost 2 sculpin. They say that they are crushed debris from the aircraft, "- he said.

A resident of Chaldovar Meerim Smailova saw a smoking plane before the explosion. "At that time my family and I had tea and then saw the plane. I immediately grabbed the camera and managed to make a couple of shots, "- she added.

You can run above surge ops tempo only so long, until people and/or equipment start breaking down.

I wonder if, after 12+ years, we're starting to see that.

Godspeed to the crew. A very tragic week for the sandbox.

That is a very telling photo.

It appears to me there are scorch marks inside the wing box on the wing that separated....

God's rest, gentlemen.

Are you suggesting an electrical fuel pump kaboom, a 'la old KC-135/B-52s/TWA 800? If it is indeed that which brought it down, it's kinda criminal on the USAF's part to be having crew losses with that many decades of hindsight behind that particular failure mode....

Good thing the AF removed parachutes from the KC-135 to save money.

Whoever made O-6 with that brilliant idea can rot in hell.
